Spider Ivy is an evergreen perennial native to Tropical and Southern Africa that potentially has mild hallucinogenic properties for Felis Catus. This popular houseplant is considered non-toxic and has been shown to help purify Volatile Organic Compounds out of the air.
One of the current experiments being undertaken at the Apothecary is discovering how psychoactive a drug Chlorophytum Comosum is for Felis Catus. This includes a review of any publicly available peer-reviewed material, household attempts at good science, and an earnest attempt to understand why my cats can’t stop trying to eat all the spider plant leaves. Is it just because they are crunchy, or is there an active psychoactive substance in them that causes them to trip similarly to Catnip? If there is a drug-like effect, this raises the question of why, or is there an evolutionary history between the two lineages?
